Study on reproduction of wild Borneo Orangutan

Report: KUZE NOKO

Date: 2013/1/14 - 2013/1/21

On 15th January, I visited Sabah Biodiversity Center and Sabah Wildlife Department to apply permission for export of orangutan's urine samples for hormone analysis. However, they said that I might get permission after March 2013. I stayed at Danum Valley Conservation Area from 16th to 20th January and followed orangutans for 3 days with our local research assistants. I conducted fallen fruit census with them, too. I checked four mothers still kept their baby born from 2010 to 2012. One nulliparous female was pregnant while one parous female has not been pregnant yet. Therefore I almost accomplished my purpose in this field trip.
