On-the-job training of wildlife in the Conservation Area of Sabah,
Report: HIDETOSHI KUROTORI
Date: 2011/6/24 - 2011/7/1
This time, I could have an opportunity to observe
an inhabiting situation around the woody mountains and the mammals, the
birds which is using them by the trekking in Maliau Basin Conservation
Area. Concretely I took many pictures of trees and plants, and measured
and noted them. I could record the voice of Bornean gibbons, hornbills and
insects in the recorder and the video. Especially, it is very interesting
field for me to study the wild orangutans because a lot of dipterocarps
were spreading in this conservation area, however, we could not find the
sort of dipterocarps and other fruits for orangutans and other primates
except long-tailed macaque in Maliau Barea. Another day we visited the
Proboscis monkey colony in the Clears River in the west of Kota Kinabalu.
We could watch many sized Proboscis monkeys, gibbons and a monitor lizard
there. Therefore, we could observe the fireflies on the river after the
sunset. In conclusion we could take part in the conservation workshop
hosted by the Yayasan Sabah in Kota Kinabaru, it was possible to have done
the exchange of views of the lively preservation activity.
