On-the-job training of wildlife in the Conservation Area of Sabah,
Report: nakazawa nobuko
Date: 2011/9/6 - 2011/9/13
I visited Maliau Basin Conservation area in Sabah, Malaysia.
I stayed at the study centre of Maliau Basin.
I walked through lowland tropical forest, and observed some species of mammals, birds and reptiles.
I also observed unique "Black water river" there.
I had done field census mainly along the river, and could have observed meeting point of two rivers (one of them is "Black water river" and the other is "White water river"), and also observed some kind of strangle fig.
Near the study centre, I saw red leaf monkey, bearded pig and mouse deer, and in night walk, I observed nocturnal carnivore, Malay civet.
There were also many foot prints of animals (e.
g.
bearded pig, mouse deer and sambar deer).
I visited an observation tower, and observed many species of birds like hornbill.
I also visited canopy walk way there, and could observed many species of trees, such as bornean iron wood that is unique for tropical rain forest in
South-east Asia from high position.
