Observation of wild orangutans in Borneo with undergraduate studesnts

Report:Takaaki Taniguchi

Date:2010/12/10 - 2010/12/17

From December 10 to 17, we (Tomonaga and 1 graduate and 5 undergraduate students) visited Danum Vally in Malaysia because of the observation of the wild orang-utan and we went to Sepilok to inspect the orang-utan rehabilitation canter.

At first day, we could observe Abu, male. He was almost eating, but sometimes took a rest. Occationary we watched him so close, and he hide from us. He was accustomed to the existence of human, but he was reluctant to being observed.
In contrast, in rehabilitation canter orang-utans play tricks to people because they know human is weak. we watched they fought with other monkeys and two young oran-utans slept with embracing each other.
