HOPE reportNumber: 23-003 Ecological study on palm civets in Borneo Report: Nakabayashi Miyabi Date: 2011/5/19 - 2011/10/11 Generally, related species which live sympatrically have some ecological or morphological differences.
In order to reveal the former difference, I focused on their food and environment.
Regarding food, I conducted fecal census and direct observation.
I collected 80 feces of common palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) in fecal census and I observed common palm civets, small-toothed palm civets
(Arctogalidia trivirgata) and binturongs (Arctictis binturong) for 23 times, 3 times and twice for each species.
Regarding environment, I assessed microhabitats at the point where I had observed each species of palm civets.
I am analyzing these data that will be helpful for elucidating the mechanism of coexistence in palm civets.
