Collaborative Study at National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA) and Participation to the International Workshop on Tropical Biodiversity Conservation
Report: TAWA Yuko
Date: 2012/10/21 - 2012/11/ 1
I attended the workshop, International Network for Tropical Biodiversity Conservation Focusing on the Studies on Large Animals, at National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA) in Manaus.
I got knowledge about researches on tropical rainforest and various wild animals.
I gave a poster presentation on my research entitled "Observational studies on behaviors of captive lowland tapirs (Tapirus terrestris) -- preliminary reports of aggressiveness in male-male encounter and behavioral change during raining --".
and I discussed my research during this workshop.
I visited the Amazon River and observed wild animals such as boto (Amazon river dolphin) and tucuxi.
At conserved forest of INPA (ZF2), I walked around the forests and saw canopies from a 45 meter high observation tower.
Through this visit at INPA and fields of wildlife research, I learned about researches and conservation activities in Amazon.
Amazonian rainforest is a habitat for Brazilian tapir, now I'm working on.
I got information about characteristics of the Amazonian rainforests, and it will be useable to consider Brazilian tapirs' ecology and behavior in wild.
