Nutritional analysis of plant species used as browse for captive primates at Japan Monkey Centre

Miya HAMAI (KUPRI), Masao SATO(Japan Monkey Centre)

At Japan Monkey Centre, fresh leaves and twigs have been used in diet for colobine monkeys and gorillas. We started analysis of nutrient composition of plant species found suitable for diet empirically, because the importance of low-calorifacient and fibrous items in diet for captive primates has been recognized, and we need wider repertoire of browse list available from common plant species in Japan. Seasonal change of nutrient composition is also examined.
