Orangutan outreach: improved communication through curriculum and educational CD-ROM

Dr. Nancy Briggs

Through the development of learning objectives, specific materials, and interdisciplinary exercises including interactive activities related to orangutans and great apes, the authors were able to expand the outreach to students at various educational settings in new and empowering ways. Objectives and activities on orangutans and great apes were applied to traditional subjects such as Language, Science, Mathematics, Art, and Social Studies. In addition, the learning approach was clearly interdisciplinary often-focused on appreciation of diversity and culture. Students heard live lectures, completed activities from two workbooks, played games on an interactive CD-ROM. The website which demonstrates this is entitled www.orangutang.com
