Ecological study of cercopithecine monkeys in Kalinzu Forest, Uganda

 Behavioral Observation: I conducted behavioral observation of two Cercopithecus monkeys. I randomly chose a monkey of each subject monkey as a focal animal at the beginning of each day's survey and observed it as long as possible, by keeping a distance. The feeding behavior of the target animal was scanned, and the food items consumed were also recorded. We also recorded height of the target monkey (5m interval) and number of the monkeys around the target animal (radius in 20m). Further, we attempted individual identification of the monkeys within the subject group. 

 Vegetation Survey: I and two local assistants conducted vegetation survey. I divided the summative home range of our subject monkey group into 50m x 50 m sized grid cells. Then I and assistants recorded the tree species (more than 15m in heights), their location, and their crown size (arranged to the 5m) within each grid. As to small trees whose size was less than 15m, we made small quadrat (10m x 10m) at the center part of each 50mĄß50m grid, and superimposed the number of small trees within the small grids on the whole 50m x 50m grids. In order to evaluate the amount of herbs on the ground, we made four 2m x 2m grids and counted the number of herbs.
