Presentation at the XXII Congress of the International Primatological Society, and collection of information on the ape research in Europe.

During my stay in Edinburgh, Scotland from 3rd to 8th in August, I took part in the 22nd Congress of the International Primatological Society. Our research was presented in a symposium "Cooperation, reciprocity, responses to inequity" on 18th afternoon. The title of my oral presentation was "Experimental studies on reciprocal cooperation in chimpanzees". I discussed latest research with various scientists including experimental psychologists, field researchers, social scientists, and so on.
Before and after the congress, I visited London Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo, Chester Zoo, and Oxford University. The zoos in the U. K. are affirmatively accepting a lot of animal researchers. Some of them keep an adequate number of several species of great apes, and therefore they can provide excellent opportunities for comparative studies. Actually, there are some ongoing research projects of comparative studies with all the four great ape species. I was also impressed with the environmental enrichment, both in the facilities and in the rearing systems, for the animals. I would like to make the best use of the information for my future activities.
