Presentation at the XXII Congress of the International Primatological Society, and discussion on the genetic research of wildlife.

I have presented the result of VNTR analysis of serotonin transporter gene by a poster in XXII Congress of International Primatological Society. Moreover, I presented about "Genetic polymorphism as a background of animal behaviour" at the seminar held in the Edinburgh university. I could discuss with foreign researchers about the relationship between genotype and personality. In the symposium of the personality evaluation, various aspects; the questionnaire, behavior observation and the effect of environment, were discussed. Moreover, I could see a lot of presentation about the genetic analysis in relation with conservation, ecology, and behavior. The information is useful to promote our future research at our Wildlife Research Center.
After the Congress I visited Dr. Shuichi Matsumura of Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries to discuss about genetic analysis of Sulaweshi macaque (Macaca maurus). Moreover, I visited Dr. Arne Ludwig in Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Berlin and Dr. Ettore Randi in Italy 's National Institute for Wild Animals, Bologna. Both are conducting genetic analysis of wild animals. In the laboratory about 10 researchers were working with the newest facilities. The purposes were different in two institutes. The former institute was organized with research stations in Asia and Africa. In the latter, the conservation of wild animals in Italy such as wolves, bears, and eagles was the main topics, and they also routinely checked the paternity of zoo-born animals in Italy.
Both institutes were in cooperation with the university and the zoo, and planned to use domestic animal's abundant genetic information for wildlife research, as in our center. Both institutes were positive to exchange of information, students and the researchers with our center.
