HOPE reportNumber:20-044 Ecological account for ground dominance: comparisons between terrestrial and arboreal primates Report:Sakai Ayumi Date:2008/05/08 - 2008/05/16 I presented a poster entitled "Ecological account for ground dominance: comparisons between terrestrial and arboreal primates" , jointly authored with Kazuo Fujita (Kyoto University), Carole Parron (CNRS, France) and Joel Fagot (CNRS, France) on May 11.
This study compared perception of the size constancy illusion between arboreal New World monkeys (squirrel monkeys and capuchin monkeys) and terrestrial primates (humans and baboons) to investigate the relationship between our characteristic of ground dominance and our visual environment.
The results suggest that ecological differences give rise to differences in visual environment that may lead to diverging depth perception processes among them.
For there are few comparative studies on three dimensional perception approached by ecology, many researchers from various fields visited my poster.
I had profitable discussions with them.
In addition, I found a lot of interesting works of my field at oral and poster sessions and realized new trends in our research area through discussions with the researchers.
