The main objective of this field trip was to visit various sites in Southern India to observe the 5 primate species known to inhabit this region. Additional, I meet with local collaborating researchers to discuss our current and future collaborative research. I was accompanied on this trip by my graduate student, Mrs. CAD Nahallage, with whom I am working with in Sri Lanka in order to promote closer ties with the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University and these two countries. I arrived in Bangalore on the 23rd of September. On the 24th we visited my counterparts at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Prof. Anindya Singha and Dr. Sindhu Radakrishna. and their students. On the 25th and 26th we traveled together to Bandipur National Park and Mudumalai NP where we observed bonnet macaques and hanuman langurs. In route to these two sites, we stopped in at the Nature Conservation Fund office in Mysore and met with the staff and students. On the 27th to 29th we traveled to Sharawathi Nature Reserve with Dr. NH Kumar of NIAS, in northern Karnataka to observe nilgiri langurs, bonnet macaques, lion-tailed macaques and the nocturnal malabar slender loris. From the 30th of September to 3rd October we visited Anamalai NP in Tamil Nadu State with Dr. Kumara and local conservation officer Mr. Ananda Kumara where we observed nilgiri langurs and lion- tail macaques. We also visited the forest restoration project site in Valparai and the Anamalai Nature Information Centre.
