21st December, 2006 - 1st January, 2007

To investigate the biodiversity of arboreal small mammals in Vietnam, I successfully captured some squirrels such as Callosciurus, Dremomys, Belomys, and Tamiops in the Trung Khanh National Park of Cao Bang. To test the utility of nest box for arboreal small mammals in subtropical forest, I have set nest boxes in the forest of Cuc Phuong National Park of Ninh Binh since last April. From last April to September, I had little found any evidences that arboreal small mammals were using that, however, at this time, one Hylopetes flying squirrel was observed in the nest box, and also, I successfully found the feces and tooth marks of rats in the ten nest boxes. In the Workshop on International Cooperative Wildlife Research Projects in Vietnam, I gave a presentation on the geographical barriers such as mountain range and large river, which had influenced the phylogeographical structures of Callosciurus erythraeus. Also, I could have a good time and obtain much meaningful comments in this workshop.
