Outline of Study

Juveniles of Japanese macaques

Positional Behavior of Primates
Sorry, now constructing. Index, only.

Background and aim of my study
*Positional behavior is most fundamental behavior for animals.
*Primates: various locomotion and posture, various morphology
*Primates: slow speed of development
*Development of locomotion and posture: related to cognition, control system, ecology, social structure, and so on.
*But field study of positional behavior is not many.

Positional behavior and its development of Japanese macaques
*Genus Macaca is most widely spread in non-human Primates.
*Japanese macaques have the intermediate positional behavior between terrestrial pig-tailed macaques and arboreal long-tailed macaques.
*Japanese macaque is the "quadruped". They hardly suspend.
*But suspensory behavior is very important for infants to develop independent locomotion.

Positional behavior and its development of patas monkeys
*Patas monkey:the fastest runner in Primates
*Patas monkey has long limbs and lives in the Savanna.
*Long limbs for...:Temperature regulation?,Running away?,Foraging?
*Various terrestrial positional behaviours.
*Unique locomotor types.
*Why the speed of development is high?
*How do infants and juveniles survive in the Savanna?

Development of positional behavior of chimpanzees
*Are there any characteristics of the development of locomotion differing from cercopithecoids?
*Origin of bipedal walking of human

Inter-specific comparison
*Relation among development of locomotion, morphology, cognition, and control system.

Development of positional behavior, ecological and social factors
*Relation to mother's care
*Relation to environment
